Tony Jaa joins 'Kickboxer' remake

The Thai actor has joined the cast of Stephen Fung's 3D remake of 'Kickboxer', the American martial arts movie released 25 years ago.

Announced a few months ago, the remake has just added a few new names to its cast. Tony Jaa, who starred in the Thai martial arts movie 'Ong-Bak' and will soon appear in 'Fast and Furious 7', has joined the production in a major role, according to Collider.

British stuntman Scott Adkins ('Hercules', 'Zero Dark Thirty') has also come on board.

To be helmed by Hong Kong-based director Stephen Fung, the remake will star stuntman Alain Moussi ('X-Men: Days of Future Past') in the role based -- more or less -- on the one played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in the original.

While in the 1989 film, Kurt Sloan seeks revenge on the fighter who put his brother in a wheelchair, the new version will depict the character's travels through Thailand in search of his brother's killer.

The new 'Kickboxer', which could be the first in a series, will also feature pro wrestler Dave Bautista, who is currently starring in 'Guardians of the Galaxy', and former UFC world champion George St-Pierre.
