Reboot and recall: ‘Total Recall’ trailer hits

Will Colin Farell make a better impersonator than Arnie?

The much anticipated trailer of ‘Total Recall’ has been released. If you’re old enough to remember, ‘Total Recall’ is remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarznegger film based on the Phillip K Dick story, ‘We Can Remember It For You Wholesale’.

The trailer sets up what we already know from the original: Factory worker Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell, who is filling Arnold’s shoes for this remake) is bored with his everyday life. When he learns about a service that implants memories, he thinks he has found a way to feel fulfilled - until a squad of troops begins shooting up the place.

Despite telling them that he’s just an ordinary dude, Quiad suddenly ‘snap’ and takes down the troops like a boss; and he is soon on the run and finds himself involved with a group of rebels.

‘Total Recall’ also switches things up and replaces Mars with a dystopian Earth; and the trailer had smacks of ‘Blade Runner’. We also get a glimpse of the updated version of the now famous Mars immigration mask scene.

‘Total Recall’ is directed by Lens Wiseman, and if you have Wiseman, you can also expect wifey Kate Beckinsale. Here she takes on the role made famous by Sharon Stone, the duplicitous Lori. The movie also stars Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, John Cho and Bill Nighy.
