While critics are bashing the movie left, right and centre, Michael Bay is laughing all the way to the bank.
'Transformers: Age of Extinction' has thundered through the Singapore box-office last weekend earning a whopping $5.2 million, making it the biggest 4-day opening ever in Singapore.
'Age of Extiinction' was the only movie released in Singapore on 26 June.
Bay's epic featuring morphing robots dethroned previous 2014 blockbusters such as 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' and all three previous 'Transformers' movies.
In the US, the film earned a record US$100 million (S$124 million) in box office sales. It earned US$200 million internationally, including Singapore.
'Age of Extinction' stars Mark Wahlberg in his first outing taking on the evil Dinobots. It also stars Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing , Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T. J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Titus Welliver.
The series' three previous installments, starring Shia LeBeouf, generated nearly US$2.7 billion (S$3.4 billion) in worldwide sales, according to Box Office Mojo.
Made for more than $200 million, the film pits Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and other Autobots against new villains.
'Transformers: Age of Extinction' is now showing in cinemas
