The much-anticipated Universal Studios Singapore is about to open its doors to the general public.
From 8:28am on Thursday 18th of March, its wonderful world of fun and fantasy will provide hours (even days) of entertainment to locals and tourists.
The theme park’s top attraction is probably the world’s first Far Far Away Castle where visitors can step into the exciting world of Shrek, Princess Fiona and talking donkey.
From there, visitors can also get their adrenalin pumping at the Jurassic Park and WaterWorld zones, feel the energy of America’s most exciting city at the New York zones, rub shoulder with celebrities at the Hollywood zone and even visit the dense tropical jungle of the hit movie Madagascar.
And if time travel is your thing, you can either take a journey back to Ancient Egypt or experience a futuristic world of space age cities and inter-galactic wars at Sci-Fi City.
The seven zones of Universal Studios Singapore:
Far Far Away
Having fallen in love with the cuddly ogre on screen, we now have the chance to visit Shrek in his fantasy world. Enter Far Far Away Castle to rub shoulders with the green guy and his friends, to sing along at Donkey LIVE, to experience the multi-dimensional and interactive Shrek 4-D Adventure, or to get the adrenaline pumping on the swooping, diving roller coaster Enchanted Airways. And if like Shrek you like a bite or three, head to Fairy Godmother’s Potion Shop for some refreshing concotions.
Based on the hit animation movie of the same name, the Madagascar zone takes you to a dense tropical jungle, filled with strange yet wonderful creatures like lemurs and foosas. Bird calls and monkey cries fill the air as you journey deeper into the African rainforest, where you’ll find King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Around, a crazy carousel spun around by the King and the Lemurs. Chill out with some tasty bites and cool drinks at Marty’s Casa Del Wild.
Step into Hollywood Boulevard to experience a recreation of Tinseltown’s stunning architecture, beautiful palm trees and the famous Walk of Fame. Check out the world famous Pantages Hollywood Theater, some fabulous shops as well as mouth-watering eateries such as Mel’s Drive-In, from the hit movie American Graffiti, where you’ll get to enjoy burgers and drink in the old-diner tradition.
From the West Coast to the East Coast. In the New York zone, you’ll feel the spirit of America’s biggest and grandest city as you walk the sidewalks and take in the city skyline, the neon lights and the amazing architecture, which has provided the backdrop to many famous movies. Go behind the scenes at the Lights, Camera, Action! special effects show, hosted by none other than Steven Spielberg. The dining options here include the best of what the Big Apple has to offer, be it at KT’s Grill or the famous Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor.
The city of the future is here in Singapore. Once you walk through the impressive portals you’ll find yourself in a futuristic metropolis which draws its energy from the wind, sun and water. Ride the Accelerator to find out whether you can keep your wits, and lunch down, while madly spinning around. If you’re still looking for another major adrenaline rush, then engage in the ultimate inter-galactic battle of Humans versus Cylons on the Battlestar Galactica dueling coasters, themed after the hit TV show.
Travel to the 1920s and the Golden Age of Egyptian Exploration, to discover ancient pyramids, obelisks and extraordinary Pharaoh tombs. Retrace the footsteps of daring archeologists as they unraveled the cryptic riddles of the Sphinx. And be sure to experience the Revenge of the Mummy attraction, an expedition of a lifetime. If you need to take time out from this sand-swept land, you can quench your thirst at the Oasis Spice Café or shop for Egyptian treasures at Carter’s Curiosities.
The Lost World
Universal fans are sure to be blown away by the zone’s two iconic theme areas: Jurassik Park and WaterWorld. In the Jurassic Park area (based on Steven Spielberg’s classic epic adventure film) hop onto the Rapids Adventure, a crazy river ride that flows through the wild rainforest of Costa Rica where dinosaurs have been brought back to life. At WaterWorld, watch death-defying stunts and an incredible fire and water show based on the hit movie.
