22 March 2014. Mark the date.
Once in a while we get a Brit Rock band on our shores who you least expected, but you can’t miss live. While they have been compared to the likes of Joy Division and Human League, White Lies have the modern sensibilities and panache of bands like The Killers - and they’re coming to Singapore.
While their 2011 gig at the Esplanade was cancelled at the eleventh hour, the lads returned to Singapore in 2013 for a private, invite-only gig for the launch of cologne, Burberry Brit Rhythm. They played a concise but thrilling half-hour set, where white strobe lights were the perfect foil to their cool Britannia vibes and dark, hypnotizing alternative rock.
The West Londoners, Harry McVeigh (lead vocals and guitar), Charles Cave (bass) and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums) will be at TAB for their first full concert.
The band burst on to the scene with much fanfare. Their debut album ‘To Lose My Life’ (2009) went straight to number one on the UK album charts. They also saw early success with singles such as ‘Death’ and ‘Unfinished Business’.
With their 2013 album release, ‘Big TV’, the band has racked up a considerable discography – including their latest single ‘First Time Caller’.
Catch them before they play Coachella later this year.
If the Burberry private gig was any indication, their full concert set will be a treat. Let’s hope they see it through this time around.
