Will Smith will not be back for 'Men in Black' reboot

26 Sep – Sci-fi comedy "Men in Black" is returning with its own reboot, minus one major thing – its star, Will Smith.

Producer husband and wife Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald confirmed in an interview that Sony is working on the reboot, which interestingly, won't be just one movie, but a full trilogy.

"We're in the middle of it. It's very active," said Parkes, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, while MacDonald confirmed that "It will be reinvented as a trilogy".

However, when asked whether Smith, who has been very vocal about not returning for more "Men in Black" movies, will be part of it, Parkes replied, "Most likely no."

It will be interesting to see how the story will be spun out with possibly new faces in the lead, though it could be a good time for a change seeing that the first movie came out in 1997, followed by a sequel in 2002 and another in 2012. Smith starred as Agent J alongside Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K in all three movies.

There have also been talks of a crossover with the "21 Jump Street" movie series, which starred Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. The plan has yet to be confirmed, however.

The last "Men in Black", entitled "Men in Black 3", collected USD5.1 million in Malaysia and USD4.2 million in Singapore, based on Box Office Mojo stats, contributing to its worldwide gross of over USD624 million worldwide.
