Move over Baybeats, you’ll be facing some serious competition soon. It’s a well-known fact that Mandarin singer-songwriters have long received great popularity in Singapore, with its origins in the xinyao scene.
Now, for the very first time, a Mandarin singer-songwriter music festival will be held in Singapore! Under the Stars 2011 will be staged on Aug 30, Tue at the Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa.
Conceived after similar Mandarin indie and singer-songwriter festivals staged in Asia such as such as Simple Life (簡單生活節) and Indie Pop(草地音樂節) were met with such overwhelming response that they sold out immediately to rave review by fans and critics alike, Under the Stars would be Singaporean fans’ first opportunity to get up close and personal with their idols all in one night.
To whet your appetite, here’s a clip from this year’s Simple Life (簡單生活節):
The star-studded lineup includes Crowd Lu (盧廣仲),who is as recognised by his quirky songwriting style as he is for his geek-chic fashion sense, Lala Hsu (徐佳瑩), the winner of Taiwan’s top reality singing show “A Million Stars”, hocc (何韻詩), the only apprentice to late HK music legend Anita Mui, Ellen Loo (盧凱彤), guitarist to mega-stars Sammi Cheng and Joey Yung,Peggy Hsu (許哲珮) and katncandix2 (棉花糖).
If that hasn’t got you salivating yet, you’ve obviously been hiding under a rock all these years. Tickets go on sale July 22, Friday, so grab yours quickly before they sell out!
Under the Stars 2011 is on Aug 30, Tue at the Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa. Tickets are $88 (plus $3 service fee) and are available from SISTIC.
