A Ghoul Night to all!

This weekend, Halloween threatens to lord over all other festivities for the year.

It seems that everyone and their Grandma is determined to turn us into monsters by throwing fright night spectacles with concoctions, prizes and scares a plenty. To navigate through the spine-tingling, booty-shaking options, I’ve listed the events by the key draws that polarize or will keep you hopping from venue to venue throughout the night. As Halloween falls on Sunday 31st of October, the default party night is Saturday 30th Oct unless otherwise stated.

I’m compelled to go where the music leads me and Halloween is no different. My pick is Rabbityville Horror with Tim Sweeney (DFA records, NYC) for his Singapore debut at The White Rabbit. His radioshow and selection of tracks are always on form, as are his choice of studio guests weekly. And the tens of thousands that tune in every week are a testament to this. Listen for yourself at www.beatsinspace.net.

Another must catch music highlight is the launch of Zouk Live on Thursday 4th Nov, Eve of Deepavali. It’s a series of live performances, this one featuring Portland’s, Chromatics & Glass Candy. Self-describing their music as fancifully ‘droney & weird’, I think it’s just plain sexy as is Glass Candy’s lead singer, Ida No, in all her decked out spandex goodness. Down boys!

Have I Died & Gone To Hell?

The annual champions of Most Dramatic Halloween Décor & Megalomaniac Costumes go to Zouk and Butter Factory respectively. When it comes to club décor, no one spends more than Zouk.  If it’s an over the top Halloween and fear factor-like surrounds you’re after (not to mention a scarily long queue for entry) Zouk’s Fear Factory is it.

The other big boys make a valiant effort too. St James Power Station & their ‘Tales Of The Furnace’ re-interprets urban legends throughout all their outlets, complete with a climatic synchronized performance of a Halloween classic on the stroke of midnight! (Did someone say, ‘Thriller’?) Best-dressed win a HTC Wildfire mobile handset, a Bintan Villa stay and Barf-day Packages.

When it comes to costumes, even the team at the Haus of Gaga would have a tough fight against the collective imagination of team Butter Factory who present, Cirque Berserk, The Greatest Halloween Show in The Solar System! DREM 'The Ringmaster' and MYLK 'The Terror' go Bump in the night, while DAVE DOES CLOWNS and Human Spaghetti ZUSHAN freak it up at Fash. The best bit- if your costume’s a letdown, just enter the Makeover Hall & shape-shift into the star you’ve always dreamed of.

Drink or Die Trying

Determined to turn your brain and legs into mush this Halloween, drink promotions and sponsored parties abound. It’s a Yelloween special at Stereolab where a 3 litre double magnum bottle of Veuve Clicquot is up for grabs, as well as a grand prize of a 2N/3D stay at the upcoming W Resorts in Koh Samui for the best dressed.

ABSOLUT VODKA Presents AN ABSOLUT-LY Bloody Halloween at several venues across town, like the MUGIC party presenting Kay Suzuki’s LP Release & Asian Tour at Fabrika bar at Klapsons Hotel, where complimentary ABSOLUT Bloody cocktails will be served from 9pm to 10pm.

At Loof, DJ Nomsta & Casis Lane (US) spin pumping serenades and ABSOLUT fuels the fire at the Halloween Edition of Mix & Glug, the sassy Singleton’s party. All are welcome, just RSVP to [email protected] to get on the guest list by 29 October. Attached or married folks can go too.... but bring at least one eligible friend, preferably of the opposite sex.

Belvedere IX Bordello

The Belvedere IX Bordello takes place at Filter on Sat 30th Oct with Belvedere IX bottles and magnums on promotion all night. Recommended Halloween dress for the ladies are corsets & garters, gothic suits for the guys. No prizes for guessing which member of the sexes picked the dress code…

A brand that’s apt for Halloween - Ed Hardy, takes the party out of the club and to the penthouse of the Klapsons for an ED HARDY HALLOWEEN. DJ Holly and DJ JonG (DazedOut) play warm up, while DJ Shy of 102.7 KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, headlines. Promoting Ed Hardy Vodka and the exclusive life, register for your invites at https://insurgence.sg/edhard

That’s it for my weekly event updates. You’ll still get to hear from me here but on a gentler, less frenetic basis. Till then, xoxo.
