1964’s Mary Poppins is a classic that has charmed generations with its memorable songs, ground-breaking special effects and winning performances from Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. 54 years later, Andrews passes the umbrella to Emily Blunt, who plays the practically perfect nanny in Mary Poppins Returns.

Disney released the first teaser trailer of the sequel, aired during the telecast of the 90th Academy Awards. The film is set 25 years after the events of the original. It is the 1930s, and the once-cheery Cherry Tree Lane is dreary as London has fallen on hard times thanks to the Great Depression. The Banks children Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now adults, and Michael has children of his own. They are paid an unexpected visit by the indelible figure from their childhood, Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt). The film also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda as streetlamp lighter Jack, Meryl Streep as Mary’s eccentric cousin Topsy, and Julie Walters as housekeeper Ellen. Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson and Nathanael Saleh play the Banks children Annabel, Georgie and John respectively.
The trailer doesn’t give much away, with Streep’s character yet to make an appearance. The film is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods, Memoirs of a Geisha) from a screenplay by David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland).
