April Gig Guide

Clockwise from top: Sum 41, Avenged Sevenfold and The Cranberries

After a hectic concert schedule in March (Mosaic Music Festival, Duran Duran, Roxette, Jessie J and more) music fans must be glad that April’s gig schedule isn’t as packed. It’s a good time to recharge but if you need your live music fix, then check out our picks for the month.

Pick Of The Month: Avenged Sevenfold

Why you should see them: Avenged Sevenfold last performed here in 2008 in support of their fourth self-titled album. Formed in 1999 and with five studio albums to date, this Californian band is one of the biggest and most acclaimed heavy metal acts of this millennium. Their Asian tour will begin in Tokyo on 16 April and culminate in a special show in Dubai on 4 May. Expect brutal head-banging guitar riffs, awesome drumming and an intense live show that will take your breath away.

When: 28 April 2012, 8pm

Where: The Coliseum™, Hard Rock Hotel® Singapore Resorts World™ Sentosa

How much: Early Bird - $95, Standard $107, $123(Event Day)

The Cranberries

'Ridiculous Thoughts' -The Cranberries

Why you should see them: Dolores O'Riordan and company were just here last year playing a sold out concert. Nevertheless, it will be a slightly different show as the Irish band has just released their latest album, “Roses”, in February 2012. They’ve been around since 1989, took a hiatus in 2003 and reunited in 2009. The break did them good as they are sounding better than ever. We’re quite sure The Cranberries will play all their hits as well as songs from “Roses”, which is their sixth album and the first in 10 years.

Where: Singapore Indoor Stadium

How much: $198, $168, $138, $98, $38 from Sistic

Sandy Lam

Why you should see her: Sandy Lam is a legend in the Mandarin pop scene. The Hong Kong singer released her first Cantopop album in 1985. By 1991, she had become a superstar with the release of her debut Mandarin album, “Home Again Without You”. The evergreen singer’s ‘Sandy Lam Concert MMXI’ was a huge success in 2011, culminating in three consecutive nights of sold out performances at the Hong Kong Coliseum. ‘Sandy Lam MMXII Concert’ is the follow up and promises even more surprises and top-notch production.

Fusing punk rock and metal, the band has a reputation for being an awesome live act. Their 2011 fifth album, “Screaming Bloody Murder,” earned them a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for the song, “Blood In My Eyes”.
