Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have an impossible mission to achieve in 'Edge of Tomorrow' -- drop a fresh rookie soldier into the heart of a ferocious sci-fi battle, and go on to save the world.
Fortunately, Cruise's character Bill Cage is sucked into a time loop, giving him infinite opportunities to become the one-man army required to take down the Mimics for good.
And highly trained special forces operative Rita Vrataski, played by Blunt, is on his side, giving the pair a fighting chance as they make incremental gains on each repeated attempt.
But if Rita has a personal insight into Bill's strange new ability, then it looks like Cage might be harboring a secret too.
Director Doug Liman might have started out with comic hit 'Swingers' but has carved himself a reputation for action films following 'The Bourne Identity', 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and 'Jumper', with spy drama 'Fair Game' his latest.
A June 6 date for 'Edge of Tomorrow' means that its release comes at the same time as romantic drama 'The Fault in Our Stars', one week after Disney's Sleeping Beauty interpretation 'Maleficent' and Seth MacFarlane's action comedy 'A Million Ways to Die in the West', and two after another time-traveling action setup in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.
