Cirque du Soleil's 'Totem' comes to Singapore

Cirque du Soleil will be back in Singapore for its most ambitious production yet: 'Totem', tracing the entire history of human evolution.

The iconic blue-and-yellow big top will be found in October at Marina Bay, and the production, scheduled to open 28 October, promises to be a spectacular production mixing the company's unique brand of circus arts and street performance.

The story, written and directed by artist Robert Lepage, chronicles the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly.

Since its 2010 debut, 'Totem' has been seen by more than three million people in 25 cities, and features a cast of 46 acrobats, actors, musicians and singers.

Award-winning Australian designer, Kim Barrett, who has outfitted Hollywood films including 'The Matrix', 'Cloud Atlas' and 'Jupiter Ascending', designed all the costumes in the show, which won the New York Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience in 2013.

'Totem' will be Cirque du Soleil’s fourth production in Singapore after 'Saltimbanco' in 2000, 'Alegria' in 2002 and 'Quidam' in 2005.
