The Buzz: Former Superman Brandon Routh plays the lead in this film adaptation of a popular Italian comic book.

The Stars: Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Taye Diggs

The Story: Dylan, a private investigator for the undead, must track down a dangerous artefact before a war ensues between his werewolf, vampire and zombie clients living undercover in the monster infested backstreets of New Orleans.

Insing says: Brandon Routh might be too handsome for his own good. Where do you go after playing Superman in the ill-fated Superman Returns (2006)? Now Routh, who did have a good run on the geek action series Chuck, appears to be fading into B-movie territory.

Here he plays a private investigator that helps the undead in a fairly stale horror-comedy, which has little of either. New Orleans has proved rich fodder for dark stories, as can be seen in the hit HBO series True Blood. But this comic book adaptation has few new ideas or much thought put into it; it’s a fairly clichéd brew with too little of action, laughs or mystery.

There are a couple of decent ideas, such as the ‘chop shop’ where zombies go to find new body parts. But otherwise, it’s a fairly unappetizing blend, and Routh, who tries to as much as he can with the half-dead material he has here, might want to look for other vehicles if he ever wants his career to soar and not, well, go to the dogs.
