Formula For Fun

The Singapore GP is more than just about fast cars and good looking drivers (and even better looking girlfriends). Glamour (and partying) is very much a part of the whole experience, especially with a night race in the city.

In short, Singapore basically turns into a 10-day fun-fuelled party once the Formula One circus rolls into town. Officially known as the Grand Prix Season Singapore, from September 16 to race day on September 25 racing fans and party-goers will be treated to a host of events--from parties, race-themed events, music concerts, exhibitions and dining and shopping experiences.

This year’s race also coincides with a few new openings, notably in the party scene. Revving up the glam factor is the much awaited debut of clubs Pangaea and Avalon.

Crystal Pavilion exterior of Avalon and Pangaea

Super swanky dance clubs Pangaea and Avalon, both located in the Crystal Pavilion at Marina Bay Sands both have an exciting line-up of parties and events during the racing week.

Another must-attend event is also the travelling luxe party series, Amber Lounge, which returns this year with a few surprises.

Even if you don’t know who Lewis Hamilton is or what the heck is a Sauber, we’re pretty sure these parties will convert you into a temporary racing fan this month.

Amber Lounge

If there’ a party that you should save up for, it’ll definitely have to be for Amber Lounge. For a price (500 Euros or $860), you can have free flowing champers as well as have the opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities, race drivers and their entourage.

This year’s party sees the return of the Amber Lounge Fashion Show featuring the works of Singapore couturier Frederick Lee alongside F1 third drivers on the catwalk. British artist Taio Cruz will be performing a special set during the fashion show and full-on concert on race day, while DJ Lora and DJ Mickey are on deck duties. Read more about Amber Loungehere.

Podium Lounge

More track side party action can be had at Podium Lounge—the ‘other A-List party’.  Literally minutes away from the circuit, Podium Lounge is the perfect pit stop for high rollers, celebrities and the occasional driver looking to tank up before the next party.

There’s even a nightly haute couture swimwear fashion showcase by Silvian Imberg with luxury timepieces by Yafriro followed by a live charity auction of extremely rare and authenticated F1 Memorabilia. DJs Avneesh, Surf, SiFi, Shawn Livewire, Cemmy and Alex eSa provide the party soundtrack.

On Saturday, the club throws a pair of Pit Stop Saturday parties.

German trance guru ATB (we’re sure you remember his hit "9pm (Till I Come)") will take to the Zouk decks dishing out his melodic acid-tinged tunes, while Torontian artistes Azari & IIIdelivers a special DJ set with live PA over at Velvet Underground. Known for their unique blend of moody electronica, dark yet hooky vocal choruses and analog-thick rhythms, so don’t miss these Canadian disco kings if you’re into unforgettable dancefloor anthems.

Drive past the home straight on race day for the Chequered Flag Sunday party at the club. Both Velvet Underground and Wine Bar open on this night, from 9pm and 6pm respectively till late. More importantly, it’s also the very last party in Velvet Underground before it goes for a lil’ do-over. We hear there’ll be special guests at the party (DJs, celebs, racers, etc) but we can’t tell you who just yet (wink).
