Gear up for a ‘knock-out’ weekend

Are you all set for a punch-up during the One Fighting Championships this weekend?

Into its third year, Timbre Rock and Roots features an exciting line-up of world-class musicians, Grammy Awards winners and nominees. Catch The Specials, Keb’ Mo’ (interview after the jump) and Buddy Guy live on Friday while Earth, Wind & Fire and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue (interview after the jump) perform on Saturday.

One of this year’s most anticipated events returns. One Fighting Championshiptakes place this Saturday (31 March) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Titled "War of The Lions", the competition will pitch 22 fighters from a variety of martial arts -- including Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BBJ), karate, muay thai and boxing -- against another for a cash prize and a chance at the Asian crown.

Cheating Sons gig teaser

We think they’re one of Singapore’s top bands -- Cheating Sonsperforms at the Esplanade Recital Studio this Friday (30 March) and they’re going bust out some new grooves from their latest album ‘Time Trails’.

Sway and sing along to some evergreen tunes like “The Great Pretender,” Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and “Only You” at the Marina Bay Sands’ Sands’ Theatre this Friday with The World Famous Platters. Spawned by the acclaimed The Platters who made waves in the ’50s, The World Famous Platters hails from Branson, Missouri and is composed of Dee Dee Hamilton, Eddie Stoval, Willie Nash and Lawrence “The Rooster” Randall. The group is said to be the best among the many Platters groups.

One of the most respected artists in China, having become world-renown for his stainless steel sculptures of “scholars' rocks,” Zhan Wang opens his debut exhibition here at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. The exhibition, Universe features his new body of work reimagines our fascination of the “Big Bang Theory”. Expect to see loads of ‘flying rocks’.

Funk merchants the Pushin’ On crew throws yet another of their groovy shindigs at Blu Jaz Café this Friday, with guests DJ Rah, NDC, MC Masterpiece and the Mighty Mighty (Entry by “Give As You Please”. This is not a free event).


Things get tres chic at Velvet Underground this Friday. The club hosts French jocks Agoria , Clara Moto and RONE for a night of some heart-pumping minimal house and techno.

This one definitely for the shopaholics. Robe Raiders 2 happens this Sunday at level 3 Palais Renaissance (11am-7pm; 390 Orchard Rd.). Up for grabs are top end labels like Gucci, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy as well as some cult offerings from the likes of Isabel Marant, Derek Lam, APC, Opening Ceremony, Acne and 3.1 Philip Lim.
