Go Labor-less this Labor Day Weekend! - See & Do

May Day, May Day! Labor Day is here! With its origins in wanting to allow hard workers who put in long hours to enjoy a well-deserved rest, this holiday is the perfect excuse for us to pamper and rejuvenate ourselves. And have we got the perfect lineup in store for you!

Since we’re lucky enough to be blessed with two long weekends in a row, we’ve decided to extend our popular stay-cation series for another installment on the best of what you can do without leaving the shores of Singapore.

Here are some more ideas for the long weekend. Enjoy!

See & Do

If you haven’t been to our iconic Singapore Flyer yet for a whirl in the sky, it’s high time you did! Play tourist for a terrific bird’s eye view of our little island and see all the way to Indonesia on a clear and sunny day. On top of this, don’t miss the Flyer’s latest attraction Journey of Dreams, which incorporates the breathtaking view with a dazzling multimedia showcase that gives you a more in-depth understanding of the story of Singapore. History’s never seemed so fun, but hurry—it’s only on until Apr 30 (Sat).

If the outdoor view isn’t magnificent enough for you, then head straight down to the Omni Theatre for an experience that possibly the closest we can get to a planetarium on this island. Hubble—the theatre’s latest IMAX movie (until Oct 31), propels you on an unprecedented voyage through distant galaxies. Get transported to space in an astronaut flight to the Hubble Space Telescope—the world’s first space-based observatory. Whether you’re angling to teach your kid more about the universe or a young couple in search of inexpensive romantic date ideas, this is the perfect itinerary.

While peace has mostly been restored to the country, we shouldn’t allow the catastrophe that has befallen Japan to be wiped away so easily from our memory. Continue our part in helping Japan in its hour of need by attending the Umizaru 3 Charity Film Premiere (May 1, Sun), where all proceeds will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross Society Japan Disaster 2011 Fund. What better way to inspire a bout of selfless donations than the highly inspirational story of the Japan Coast Guard Academy cadets groomed to become elite search-and-rescue divers? In this third installment, the divers risk all to save civilians trapped in a natural gas plant, while a menacing typhoon approaches. Highly poignant, and definitely an apt reflection of the times.
