It was only just a few hours ago that Marvel’s well-oiled marketing machine teased us with a 15-second trailer of its latest space adventure featuring a ragtag band of outlaws.
‘The Guardians of The Galaxy’ is the newest comic-book superhero team that will be debuting on the big screen.
And the first full-length trailer that’s finally online shows us how badass they are.
The trailer introduces us to the Guardians: Peter Quill or Star-Lord (a buffed-up Chris Pratt), the gun-toting raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), space assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the vengeful Drax (David Bautista) and humanoid plant Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).
The Guardians are definitely not your typical heroes like the Avengers as they are actually a bunch of outlaws and misfits thrust together into saving and protecting the galaxy from evil.
The first Guardians first appear in ‘Marvel Super-Heroes #18’ in 1969 but the characters in the movie only made their debut in 2008.
The movie follows Quill who comes into possession of an orb coveted by Ronan The Accuser, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. He then lands himself in space jail where he meets his new teammates.
To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into a truce with a quartet of misfits. When he discovers the power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag rivals for a last stand, with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
We also get cameos by villains Nebula (Karen Gillan), Ronan (Lee Pace) as well as The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), who we last saw at the mid-credits scene of ‘Thor: The Dark World’.
Directed by James Gunn (‘Slither’, ‘Super’), ‘Guardians’ will take on a tone and aesthetic that’s remarkably different from Marvel’s previous movies.
The movie also stars Glenn Close, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker and John C. Reilly.
