Japanese anime 'Naruto' to be staged in Singapore

Fans of Japanese manga and anime series ‘Naruto’ have reason to cheer this year as their favourite characters Naruto, Sasuke and more will come to life on stage in a new musical adaptation. 

Live Spectacle: Naruto’ comes to the Resorts World Theatre in Sentosa on 6 and 7 June 2015. Ticketing details have yet to be announced.

The musical will feature drama, songs, dance and acrobatics in a bid to cover the manga’s story from its first to the 27th volume. 

Created by Masashi Kishimoto in 1997, ‘Naruto’ is Japan’s third bestselling manga series. As of September 2014, there were more than 200 million copies in print worldwide. The series ended its run in Japan in November 2014.

In the stage adaptation, the eponymous hero Naruto Uzumaki is played by actor Koudai Matsuoka, a young ninja who has a demon fox trapped within him, while Ryuji Sato plays his nemesis Sasuke Uchiha.

The franchise will also take to the big screen this year when its seventh feature film ‘Naruto The Movie: The Last’ opens in cinemas on 12 March 2015.

‘Naruto’ is just one of a few anime series to have been adapted for the stage. Popular titles such as ‘Death Note’ and ‘Sailor Moon’ have also been turned into musicals.
