Johnny Depp being considered for 'Doctor Strange'

Originally intended for a 30-year-old actor, the lead role in 'Doctor Strange' could go to Johnny Depp and, if it did, the film would be rewritten around the 50-year-old star.

That's the word from the Latino Review, which broke news of a meeting between Depp and Disney-owned Marvel Studios -- but a yes vote could result in a rejigged schedule for 'Pirates of the Caribbean', as both 'Doctor Strange' and 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' are currently intended for release mid-2016.

Depp has certainly been a recurring fan favorite for the role, and it is thought that public receptivity to the actor's involvement was a motivating factor.

Viggo Mortensen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adrien Brody and Justin Theroux had previously been touted as possibles on Marvel's list of leads for the title role.
