Love & Pride Film Festival returns!

Please note that all the films mentioned below cater to a mature audience.

The popular Golden Village’s Love & Pride Film Festival is back for a third year running. This year the festival serves up 5 full-length features and a collection of short films this year addressing various gay and lesbian topics.

Here are the highlights.

The crowning jewel of the Festival has to be the closing film – The Kids are All Right. Screening to rave reviews at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and the winner of the prestigious Teddy at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, the film is a masterpiece in combining comedy with tender truths on what it’s really like to be a modern family. Starring Hollywood heavyweights Annette Benning, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo, this is one movie you definitely have to catch!

Designer Tom Ford’s directorial debut A Single Man is also brought back for the Festival, after an extremely limited run in our cinemas earlier on. Catch Colin Firth in his Oscar-nominated performance on how a man copes with grief after the death of his long-term partner.

For a fascinating insight into how traditions clash with modern-day sexuality in Middle Eastern culture, don’t miss I Can’t Think Straight, a tale on the growing friendship between two women of different ethnicities.

Asia also shows up strongly with cult favourite Spring Fever, which is also the opening film to the Festival, as well as the steamy tale of forbidden romance Bangkok Love Story. For a Singaporean insight into gay and lesbian issues, don’t miss the Pride Collection which highlights the talents of local directors Boo Junfeng, Royston Tan and Jeremiah R. Oh.
