Maksim makes a date with Singapore

On 26 November, Croatian pop piano prodigy Maksim Mrvica (commonly known by his stage name Maksim) returns to Singapore since his first appearance in 2009 to promote his ninth studio album Appassionata.

Most well-known for his buzzing interpretation of Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’, Maksim has now become synonymous with titles such as “Prince of Piano” and “Magician of Melody”.

His second album The Piano Player garnered various accolades across Asia – going Platinum in Taiwan and Double Platinum in Hong Kong. This album sat in the number one slot at HMV international pop charts for 12 consecutive weeks.

By successfully marrying classical music with contemporary rock and pop, the dark and edgy pop artist (who seems to be permanently dressed in black) has captured the imaginations of many musicians around the world – even being dubbed “the finest pianist since Liszt” by The Tokyo Times.

For those looking for ‘A Little Night Music’, chances are you’re not going to find it on his stage. His charisma and energy is wildly infectious and translates into every performance – turning pieces from Handel and Chopin into riveting pop-rock numbers. He’s performed at beauty pageants, MTV awards and was even part of the legendary music lineup at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.

Maksim will perform on 26 Nov, 7.30pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Tickets priced at $85, $105, $125, $138, $158, $178 are available on Sistic.
