TGIF!: Mother’s Day weekend guide (9-11 May 2014)

We hope you haven’t forgotten that’s it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday. In case you haven’t figured how to spoil your mum, we have a few ideas that can help create the ideal day’s programme for her.

From a fancy meal, to yoga under the Supertrees or lovely evening musical performances at the Esplanade dedicated especially to mothers, read on to find some inspiration for what you can do with your mum this Mother's Day weekend.

For the nature-loving mum

On Saturday, take your mum down to the Supertree grove for a fun evening of mass line dancing. Or you can give your mum an invigorating Sunday morning pick-me-up with a Hatha Yoga session by True Yoga yogis at Yoga in the Gardens. Both are free but make sure you register fast.

For the foodie mum

Wine and dine your mum all day with this handy guide on what to eat for mother’s day by our friends over at HungryGoWhere. From a mum’s seafood platter at Fish & Co to a Champagne buffet at Mezza9, there are plenty of decadent options.

If you haven’t ordered a cake for mum, here are some great last minute options via 7 online cake shops to buy from

Watches by TickInTorque will be sold at the craft section at Public Garden

Over at Public Garden, happening on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 7pm at the Suntec Exhibition and Convention Centre, both mum and her hipster children can pick up everything from jewellery and accessories to homeware and stationery at this massive flea market.

Our friends over at Styl+ have put together a list of gift ideas for mum.  From a cordless iron to the new Topshop x Kate Moss collection, there’s something for the homemaker or the fashionista.

For the sporty mum

Over at the Art Science Museum, explore a showcase of Nike Football innovations over 20 years, marking every innovation and step that dominated the field of the beautiful game. The national team kits of teams playing at the 2014 World Cup as well as the brand new Magista boot will be on display. The Art and Science of Modern Football runs from 10 to 18 May.

For the music-loving mum

‘You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’ by The Righteous Brothers as featured in the film ‘Top Gun’

If your mum loves classic love songs, Bill Medley from The Righteous Brothers and The Platters will be performing a double bill at the Marina Bay Sands theatre on May 10 and 11. Expect to hear tracks like ‘You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’ and ‘Only you’.

Over at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre all this weekend, a talented roster of homegrown musicians will serenade the audience with timeless songs from across the decades at Esplanade Presents: To Mum with Love. You can even dedicate a song or two especially to your mum.

While on Sunday, a line up of Malay singers, including Sezairi and Khadijah Ibrahim will entertain the audience at Khas Untukmu, Ibu. Hosted by funnyman Najip Ali, it will be filled with both music and laughs.

For the party mum

For the young (or young-at-heart) mum, there are plenty of parties all this weekend. There’s house and techno with Jerome Sydenham at Club Kyo and Singapore’s very own Maurice Simon spins at Gem Bar. It’s also the goodbye showcase as Singapore indie music institution Home Club closes its doors at Catch You on the Flipside.

In case you didn’t get to catch dance music protégé Andrew Rayel at Future Music Festival Asia, he spins at Zouk tonight.
