Building up to 22 February (23 Feb Singapore time) Academy Awards show, Neil Patrick Harris reveals that the role is all about finding an idea that is "unique to films, but is also cool to watch live, and on another level cool to watch at home."
"Neil [Meron] and Craig [Zadan, show producers] have seen what didn't work in previous iterations. They're confident in what does work and they know why," Harris said in a three-minute teaser released by the Academy Originals YouTube channel.
"They really want things that can only happen on the show, that you have to watch the show to see -- which is a great sandbox to play in."
On his own content, Harris has been working with the show's team of writers, who "now kind of get where my mind is about certain jokes," he said.
"I've got to feel like it's my show, and what I have to execute is going to fall on me, regardless of who wrote it," he proposed.
As for what viewers are going to see, "there's going to be a musical number," he volunteered, "and I'm a magician, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hint of magic -- I fear I've said too much."
"I don't know where or how I can give spoilers without the taser coming out again!" he joked.
