Saoirse Ronan, Gabriella Wilde and Alicia Vikander are currently in the running for the role of Cinderella in a new Disney adaptation of the fairy tale directed by Mark Romanek ('Never Let Me Go'), reveals Variety.
The three actresses will soon get to meet the director for preliminary tests. Eighteen-year-old Irish actress Saoirse Ronan is the most famous of the three thanks to her performances in ambitious productions such as 'Atonement', 'Lovely Bones' and 'The Host'. British actress Gabriella Wilde had a role in 'The Three Musketeers', and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander appears in in 'Anna Karenina'.
The final pick will play opposite Cate Blanchett, who is in talks for the role of the evil stepmother. Saoirse Ronan has already played with the Australian actress, in Joe Wright's 'Hanna'.
The live-action remake joins 'Maleficent' among upcoming retellings of fairy tales. The latter will focus on the classic 'Sleeping Beauty', from the point of view of the tale's main antagonist, the wicked fairy.
