Go retro: Singapore F1 Grand Prix goes to the 80s

Putting together a good mix of the hottest artists today and the yesteryears, F1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix 2012 adds three hottest bands from the 80s to the lineup!

Joining Katy Perry, Maroon 5 and Jay Chou at the Marina Bay Street Circuit are Bananarama, Pretenders and The Proclaimers.

English female pop duo Bananarama has sold 30 million record sales throughout their 33-year illustrious career. They are even listed in the Guinness World Records for the female group with the most chart entries.

Bananarama has several hit singles such as 'He Was Really Sayin’ Somethin', 'Shy Boy' and even a cover version of of Sex Pistol’s 'No Feeling' recorded for the soundtrack of a British film 'Party Party'. Take the hint: dust off your dancing shoes, put them on and practice some moves to get charged up for Bananarama.

Bananarama will perform at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre in Zone 4 on Saturday (22 September), and the Village stage in Zone 1 on Sunday (23 September).

We’re not pretending when we say that singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde will be bringing her signature powerhouse vocals with the Pretenders. The band, a mix of punk, new wave, rock and pop music, have been placed on the Billboard charts and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

'Don't Get Me Wrong' - The Pretenders

With so many hit songs such as 'I’ll Stand By You', 'I’m Not in Love' and 'Stop Your Sobbing', it’s time to start re-memorising the lyrics. The Pretenders have had their self-titled debut album named as one of the best albums of all time by VH1 and Rolling Stone. With all that achievements, it definitely sounds like a promising performance not to be missed.

Catch the Pretenders at the Village stage in Zone 1 on Saturday (22 Sep), and the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre in Zone 4 on Sunday (23 Sep).

Scottish twins Charlie and Craig Reid of The Proclaimers will also be zooming their way toSingapore. You’re probably familiar with them as their songs have been featured on the movie with the green ogre 'Shrek' as well as American television series 'Family Guy' and 'How I Met Your Mother'.

Did you know that their biggest hit 'I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)' has become an unofficial Scottish anthem and has even inspired an internet viral sensation?

'17' - The Proclaimers
