TGIF!: Your weekend guide (27-29 Mar 2015)

Open your eyes to the wonders of The Arts Open Houseas it presents talks, workshops, performances and visual arts all for the price of none. This one-day event is happening only on Saturday.

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts will host the ninth Guitar Ensemble Festival. The Saturday show will share the music, musical achievements and the development of student conductors in ensembles such as this. Just picture 600 guitarists performing in a 380-seat studio. Phew.

The ongoing DesignStage 2015 (through to 6 April) is proud to be casting the limelight on cutting-edge design works from Asia and the world over. Look out for pieces by artists such as Bless (Berlin/Paris), Brandon Tay (Singapore), Chulan Kwak (Korea), Flabslab (Singapore), Floris Wubben (Netherlands), Francis Sollano (the Philippines) and the Haas Brothers (US); while you pay nothing to immerse yourself in art.

It is the first anniversary of craft-beer hawker stall Beer is Food at CAD Cafe Block Party this Sunday, and eight different beers will be going on tap to serve as accompaniment to music provided by DJs Kentaro, Ulysses and Dang, from 3pm till 10pm.

For those who cannot do without a trip to Zouk, Friday will see DJs Hong and Andrew Tang dropping some big-room reverberating tracks to scratch your itch with 'Code – District 3'. Over at Kyo, the party is for its second anniversary also on Friday, and turning up the decibels will be DJ stalwarts Godwin P, Norman C, Shigeki, Ramesh K and Kenneth F.

On Saturday at the Velvet Underground, it's all 'Bassic' as DJ veterans Kiat and Darren Dubwise will be accompanied by DJ FZPZ and Zouk’s newest resident, Zushan.

The people at Kilo Lounge know a thing or two about maintaining a stream of patrons with its “no cover, no guestlist, and no hassle.. just get there early to avoid disappointment” philosophy. This applies for this Saturday’s 'Blackout' party. Taking over the decks this time is W Retreat Bali’s entertainment director and resident DJ Damian Saint, who will be accompanied by Tanjong Beach Club’s music director DJ KFC and Kyo resident DJ, Zig Zach.

If the stamina is good, go catch the 'Midnight Shift X Label Showcase' on Saturday at Kyo, where DJs John Heckle and Tapirus will entertain with their fast-paced mixing to keep th grooves going.
