TGIF!: Your weekend guide (4-6 Oct)

Hold up...It’s already October? Where did 2013 go?! But with the new month, comes a whole new line-up of things festivals to attend, performances to catch and culture to drink in.

Get your culture on this weekend, starting with film and theatre.

Cinema-lovers, here’s a treat for you. This year’s Perspectives Film Festival, held at the National Museum is themed around breakthroughs in cinema, and features cult classics and independent cinema favourites. ‘The Boys From Fengkuei’ (Taiwan), ‘Black Silk’ (Thailand) and ‘Mean Streets' (USA) feature in the lineup.

Among the films showing, there’s Danny Boyle’s directorial debut ‘Shallow Grave’, made at the height of the ‘Cool Britannia’ movement in the UK. You could say it’s the film that launched Ewan McGregor’s career.

Dysfunctional roommates, death and dark humour in Danny Boyle's 'Shallow Grave'.

Perhaps you’re up for some theatre in the park. In Elizabethan times, an all-male cast was the norm in Shakespearean theatre productions. But in 2013, the roles are reversed. An all-female cast from the Globe theatre in London is bringing a production of Shakespeare’s 'Taming of the Shrew' to the grassy knoll of Fort Canning Gate.

Here's a preview of what goes down at this world-travelling production.

Literally drink in a bit of culture for free with ‘Rémy Martin The Heart of Cognac Experience’, where members of the public get to act as Cellar Master and blend their own cognac, while sipping on and sampling some of the finest cognacs in the world. Fancy! Register early to book your slot.

Of if you just want to party, here's the plan.

It's the first friday of the month again! Which means Blu Jaz Cafe's 'Good Times' is on. Old school tunes, hip hop, drum & bass and dubstep are on the playlist, and everyone is invited to let loose. Entry is free and drinks are cheap- need we say more?

It's not every week that you get this kind of EDM pedigree in town. Electronic music's prodigious Porter Robinson returns to Singapore after his outing at last year’s ZoukOut. Joining in the shennanigans is Andre Pulse from famed Brazillian club, Green Valley (currently voted #1 on DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs list).

Zouk x Green Vally present Porter Robinson & Andre Pulse with Formative, happening this Saturday.

Arguably Porter's biggest hits, 'Language'.
