TGIF!: Your weekend guide (6-8 Mar 2015)

Catch legendary DJ and producer Chez Damier at Kilo Lounge’s first anniversary party on Friday. He is widely recognised as being responsible for Prescription Records, possibly one of the greatest house music labels of all time.

Friday night also sees Blu Jaz Cafe promising some Good Times x Darker Than Wax, where there will be an all-rounded selection of hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, techno and trap by DJs Funk Bstrd, Rah, A/K/A and William J, accompanied by the vocals of the smooth MC Roz.

Having charmed audiences with countless albums and radio plays of their hits since 1975, Australian soft rock duo Air Supply is back in Singapore on Saturday for the 40th anniversary tour, happening at The Star Theatre. For these guys, their nights are so much better since they found you.

Over in the Bras Basah Road area on Saturday night, Loof presentsAmsterdam duo Detroit Swindle, with support from Darker Than Wax’s Dean Chew, to please the late-night partygoers.

Expect a fun, eclectic set from Spanish DJ Henry Saiz this Saturday at Kyo. He’ll likely mine the depths of electronica, disco, house and techno, with some help from Singapore jocks Tigerstyle and Zig Zach.

Velvet Underground at Zouk will be hosting Jacques Greene, who has already notched up performances at formidable European venues and festivals, such as Fabric Live, Plastic People, Panoramabar, Sonar, Mutek, the Bloc Weekender and Bozar Electronic Weekender. We think that’s enough said.

If, of course, you want just one venue to take in all the music this weekend, look no further than the Singapore International Jazz Festivalwith its encompassing line-up: Chaka Khan, Jessie J, Roy Ayres, and Yuna, among other names.

For art buffs, consider the ArtWalk at Wessex Estate, held in the historic black-and-white houses, and set against the leafy backdrop of Portsdown Road. Maps will be provided for the self-guided route that will take you through 14 studios.

A different type of tour is organised by Singapore Cocktail Week, a celebration of 30 of Singapore’s finest cocktails bars. There will be bar tours, workshops and other activities planned throughout the week. Get hold of those wristbands, which are available for purchase at all participating cocktail bars.

Go back to the swinging '60s and '70s with the 'Great World Cabaret' live theatrical variety show at Resorts World Sentosa. It brings back three of Singapore and Malaysia's nightlife legends: the "Queen of Striptease" Rose Chan (played by Seong Hui Xuan), a-go-go queen Sakura Teng (Joanna Dong), and iconic Malay folk singer Kartina Dahari (Aisyah Aziz), who will all perform classic songs from that period. Created by Dream Academy founder and "Dim Sum Dolly" Selena Tan, the show – directed by George Chan and written by Alfian Sa’at and Benjamin Lee – also stars Mark Lee, Hossan Leong, Judee Tan, Sebastian Tan, among others.

With all these weekend entertainment options highlighted for you, we still would like to humbly invite you to take a tour through our meticulously put-together events calendar.
