8 Asian superhero movies you have to see

8 Asian superhero movies you have to see

The success of superhero movies hasn't gone unnoticed. Filmmakers from all over have tried to replicate the success of movie's current hot genre, with mixed results. They can't compete with the huge budgets of Hollywood films, and you get CG scenes that end up looking like something from a bad 80s video game. In Asia, there have been films from various countries that feature locally-grown superheroes, though few are actually from comic books. Unfortunately, most of them have only managed to do so with middling success, perhaps producing a sequel. Few have truly managed to become long running franchises, yet they are still entertaining, sometimes for their camp value. Here are eight Asian films that tried to ride the superhero wave. Check them out if you want a change from the Marvel and DC superhero films that have taken over cinemas.
Days of Franchise Past: 10 forgotten movie franchises

Days of Franchise Past: 10 forgotten movie franchises

Franchise – it's the magic word Hollywood is fixated on. A string of bottom-line guaranteed sequels, along with potential diversification in the form of video games or television shows? Sounds like an executive's dream. However, the real world doesn't always work according to the machinations of executives and suits.

In a world where everyone's hoping to create the next money printing Harry Potter or Marvel universe, there've been plenty of promising flash in the pans that have fallen by the wayside along the way.

Couple that with a lack of originality and the general audience's tendencies to not reward studios taking risks with new ideas, it's not hard to see exactly why ‘Ghostbusters’ and 'Independence Day', two franchises that have beloved original movies, are brought back.

In light of that, we take a look at some franchises that have fizzled out along the way, but yet may live to see another day.
